Located in the beautiful Lackawanna Valley, Scranton, PA is a historic working-class city that has transformed into a modern and popular destination. Known for its respected educational institutions, abundant natural beauty, and its unexpected fame from the acclaimed TV show The Office, Scranton offers a unique blend of history and culture.
Scranton is often referred to as the “Electric City,” a nickname that highlights its early adoption of electric transit. On this outing, we’ll explore two of Scranton’s most popular attractions: the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour and the Electric City Trolley Museum. We’ll also enjoy a casual pizza lunch—because yes, pizza is definitely a thing here!
The Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour offers a truly unique and immersive experience. This former working mine allows you to travel 300 feet underground by elevator, be sure to bring a sweater, as the temperature drops into the low 50s. Once below, a knowledgeable guide will lead us through the tunnels, sharing fascinating insights into the history of mine and the daily lives of the workers.
At the Electric City Trolley Museum, you’ll enjoy a trolley ride along historic tracks, along with free time to explore the museum’s exhibits. This experience brings Scranton’s transportation heritage to life. After a full day of exploration, we’ll board the return trip, wrapping up a memorable visit to the Electric City.
