There’s no secret why this destination has become a favorite—those iconic views speak for themselves. Straddling the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the Delaware River cuts through the Kittatinny Ridge, creating the dramatic Delaware Water Gap with Mt. Tammany rising on the New Jersey side and Mt. Minsi on the Pennsylvania side. 

Mt. Tammany is one of New Jersey’s most beautiful and most visited hikes. The trail is steep and challenging, but the reward is extraordinary: sweeping, unobstructed views over the Delaware Water Gap, lush greenery, and rolling mountains. Spring, summer, and fall offer the best conditions, and in the summer you may even cool off with a refreshing dip near the waterfall. 

You’ll hike at your own pace—solo or with friends—while the coach provides convenient pick‑up and drop‑off at the parking area at designated times. The most popular route is the Red Trail, approximately 3.5 miles, though shorter and alternative trails are available. Guests should be aware that the terrain is steep and uneven, and wildlife such as bears, deer, and snakes is common. Dressing appropriately, staying hydrated, and respecting nature are strongly recommended. 

A brief rest stop will be made en route to and from Manhattan, but food options near the trail are limited. Bringing your own snacks and meals is encouraged to keep your energy up throughout the hike. 

This outing is ideal for nature lovers who are physically prepared for a strenuous adventure. Mt. Tammany offers one of New Jersey’s most rewarding hikes and a chance to experience the state’s natural beauty at its very best.

Free time to hike  

2:30pm departure  

4:30pm latest drop off back in Manhattan
