African American Heritage Celebration Tour

The Month of February is officially “Black History Month”. Join A1 Tours as we celebrate African American History in our nation's capital, Washington DC. This month-long annual event gives us a great opportunity to honor the achievements and contributions of African Americans and other people of African descent in various fields and eras of U.S. history.

Black History Month also highlights and teaches the struggles, resistance, oppression, racism and discrimination that the African American Community have faced in the past and still are in current time. Black History Month initially began as a week-long event back in 1923 initiated by historian Carter G. Woodson. It was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1976 by President Gerald Ford. Since then, every U.S. president has officially designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme.

This captivating African American History celebration tour explores the U street corridor and other central locations related to culture and activism of civil and black rights in America. Washington DC is the place for some of black history’s most fascinating moments of the civil rights movement. You will learn of history past & present from the African American perspective and much more.
