George Washington’s Mount Vernon & A Day on the National Mall
One of the nation’s most iconic historic landmarks is George Washington’s Mount
Vernon. Set on stunning grounds, a visit to this estate offers more than a
history lesson. George Washington’s Mount Vernon is a former plantation of
United States first president George Washington and his wife Martha. Located
Fairfax County overlooking the beautiful Potomac River.
We arrive early afternoon starting off with lunch at the food court followed by a privately
guided tour. During the tour we dive
deep into the history of the state and the life of George Washington. You may see
the Mansion itself, the Tombs - George Washington died at Mount Vernon in 1799.
His wish was to be buried in the estate. A new brick tomb was built after his
death and in 1831 his remains were moved into the newer tomb. The Gardens - the
estate has four different gardens. Each garden served its’
own purpose. You will get some free time to stroll through all of Washington’s
four gardens as well as exploring the visitors Center & Museum with various
exhibitions and films.
From here we head to Historic Alexandria for a late afternoon at leisure
The following day, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before heading out to explore the
National Mall on your own. (The coach will drop you off at the Mall in the
morning and pick you up in the afternoon)
The National Mall is home to many of Washington, DC’s most iconic attractions,
offering countless opportunities to explore at your own pace. You may choose to
visit any of the Smithsonian Institutions, and A‑1 Tours will be happy to
