Hagley Museum & Mt Cuba Center
Join A-1 Tours this year to explore the Dupont Legacy – a fantastic story of how it all began. We visit mansions, museums and of course stunning summer gardens that each hold its own unique character and rich history.
The Legacy Tour is split over the three days. July 16 (Hagley Museum & Mt Cuba Center), August 27 (Nemours Estate & Winterthur Museum Garden & Library) & December 10 (Longwood Garden), 2026 While we would love for you to join us for all three days, you are welcome to attend just one—choose the experience that suits you best.
With an early morning departure, we head towards the
blissful Brandywine valley and Hagley Museum as our first stop. This is where
the legendary Du Pont family originally settled; where they built their first
home and where they started their black powder business. The splendor of the
DuPont legacy can still be seen throughout the region in renowned gardens such as
Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, Nemours, and Mt. Cuba Center.
At Hagley, we enjoy a guided walk along the river, visit the machine shop and learning about the family’s early
black powder manufacturing. We also explore the gardens, the historic mansion,
and the automobile collection—all led by a private guide. Be prepared to be
amazed!
From Hagley, we continue on to Mt. Cuba Center, beautifully set among rolling hills. Mt. Cuba is a renowned
botanical garden and historic mansion dedicated to the conservation of native
plants and their habitats, and it holds an important place in DuPont history.
Our visit begins with lunch at the mansion. A freshly prepared sandwich buffet will be served with salads,
assorted sandwiches and wraps, potato chips, cookies, brownies, coffee, tea
& iced tea.
Afterward, we tour the estate and gardens, learning about their 90‑year transformation from a private estate into a
beloved public botanical garden. The tour explores garden design, evolution,
and the people who lived and worked there over the years.
You’ll have some free time to
explore on your own before boarding the coach for our return journey.
Travel is aboard a luxury motor
coach equipped with Wi‑Fi and restrooms, with additional rest stops provided
along the way.
